Anthony J. Lavilette

December 17, 1927 — March 16, 2025

A beloved figure and a shining star of the Bois Thor (Thorwood) community in Haiti, departed this world unexpectedly on March 16, 2025, after a long and richly lived life of public and private service. By day, he worked at the François Duvalier Airport—now renamed Toussaint Louverture International Airport—and by night, he was a familiar presence in the city's casinos. Known for his impeccable style, dandy demeanor, and deep devotion to prayer, Tony—affectionately called "Papay"—was a beacon of light and hope in the community. His kindness extended beyond words, manifesting in countless charitable deeds for those in need. A man of charm and charisma, Tony was also known for his fondness for companionship, drawing playful comparisons to King Solomon. Though this occasionally led to some mischief, he always sought to make amends, ensuring that his legacy would be one of generosity and goodwill. He was preceded in death by his beloved sister Vanina Chrôné, his adopted daughter Delourdes and his close companions Carlos and Rogers. He leaves behind a cherished legacy carried on by his children: Erick J. Alexander, Jean Michel Ernst Lavilette, Marie Livy Lavilette, Anthony Jr. Lavilette, and Nancy Lavilette, many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Condolences to families Lavilette, Bazile, Laroche, Chrôné, Laurenceau, Roche, Lacombe, Alexander, Jean-Pierre, Mirville, Altrait & Pompée. A gathering to honor Anthony's enduring impact on his community and loved ones will take place on March 29 at Palm West Funeral Home and Crematory. His memory will remain a guiding star for all who knew him.
