Anita Rae Bain

Anita Rae Bain, 61, passed away unexpectedly due to a stroke on February 28, 2015. Born on February 20, 1954 in Portsmouth,VA, she was a universally beloved wife, mother, daughter, grandmother and aunt. She served in the US Navy in a leadership capacity during the Vietnam War and then began her family. While raising her three children she completed her B.S in Biology at Old Dominion University and began her career at the South Florida Water Management District where she worked for 28 years, most recently serving as a well-respected Bureau Chief. Anita was the rock of her family and lived her life with unrelenting generosity of spirit, welcoming everyone into her large circle of family and friends. She will be missed by many and her impact on our lives will be forever felt. She is survived by husband, Donald Bain, son, Gabriel Carey, daughter, Pepper Carey, stepdaughters, April Strickland and Sabrina Bean, stepson, Daniel Bain, mother, Julia T. Hyatt, father, Rolland Doerfer, sisters, Marcy Hodder and Traci Tracy, brothers, Darryl, Richard and Devon Doerfer, granddaughters, Cherri Anderson, Adrienne Strickland, and Saige and Rorie Bean, grandson, Tristan Carey, and a large extended family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse, Inc. (avdaonline.org) or Habitat for Humanity's Global Impact Fund.
