Alicia S. Andrews

Susan Alicia "Lee" Andrews (née Shaffer), of Royal Palm Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2026, at the age of 98.

Born on July 2, 1928, in Beekman, New York, Lee was one of seven children born to Harold and Susan Shaffer and was raised on the family's farm in Billings. She met her future husband, Donald C. "Don" Andrews, through their mothers' bridge club. Their love story began in unforgettable fashion when Don, a young pilot, tried to impress her by flying low over her family's farm, only to crash into a tree on the property. Thankfully, he made a full recovery and on July 25, 1948, Lee married the man who had quite literally fallen for her. Their marriage spanned more than six decades, until Don's death in 2011. Together they built a life filled with family, laughter, dancing, card games, golf, and creativity.

Lee was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her children, Donna Andrews, Chuck Andrews (Debbie), and Susan Wright; her grandchildren, Cindy Scarcella (Marc), Stephen Andrews, and Michele Andrews; her great-grandchildren, Brielle, Jack, and Elsie Scarcella; and many nieces and nephews.

While living in New York, Lee was an active member of the LaGrange Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary Club. After retiring to Florida in 1979, she became a dedicated volunteer at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts and the Cox Science Center, both in West Palm Beach.

Those who knew Lee will remember that she lived life in full color. She was a talented painter and Don carefully framed and hung each of her works until there was no longer any empty wall space left in their home. She was known for her vibrant style, bright clothing, bold costume jewelry, and never leaving the house without lipstick. She loved cats (and anything cat themed), never passed by a yard sale, and delighted in sharing her finds with family and friends. A fiercely competitive card player, she especially enjoyed Bridge and treasured every dollar she won. Her infectious laugh, quick wit, candid honesty, and familiar "Mm hmm" will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.

At 98, Lee was the last surviving member of her generation of family and lifelong friends. She leaves behind a legacy of resilience, humor, generosity, and unconditional love that will continue through the generations of her family.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral services. A private family burial will be held at the Andrews family plot in Palms-Robarts Memorial Park in Sarasota, Florida, where Lee will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Don.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Lee’s memory to the Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League.
