Evelyn A. Yovino, 92, beloved mother of Dara Yovino died peacefully at her home in West Palm Beach, FL, on October 10, 2022. She was born in Old Mystic, CT on January 25, 1930 to Thomas and Josephine (Godek) Weglarz. Evelyn graduated with high honors from the Norwich Free Academy class of 1948. After high school, she worked for local companies in the Norwich area prior to her many years of employment at the former Federal Paper Board Company in Versailles from where she retired in 1992. On January 26, 1952, she married Ernest Yovino at St. Mary's Church in Norwich, CT. She and Ernie spent many happy years together raising their daughter, working at her parents gas station and general store in Preston, traveling to various places in the country, and enjoying their home. After Ernie's passing in 1985, Evelyn and her daughter enjoyed time together traveling several times to the West Coast, the Caribbean, and Europe. She particularly enjoyed her trip to Spain and Morocco about which she claimed that while there she felt as though she were living a role in the movie Casablanca. She enjoyed taking in the sights of places she travelled to and learning about the history and cultures of people there. Evelyn moved from Preston to West Palm Beach 20 years ago. She enjoyed the warmth and sunshine of Florida, and especially enjoyed making new, lasting friendships with the people she met there. She maintained her independence and self-reliance in every way throughout her life; she understood that God had been good to her. She was a kind and compassionate woman, putting the needs of others before her own. Her door was open to those she she knew, and she was always there to lend a listening ear and to offer wise advice. She accepted the hardships in her life with grace, an inspiration to others. She will be dearly missed by family and friends who knew and loved her, especially by her daughter with whom she shared a truly special bond. Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Dara Yovino (Peter White) of Stonington, CT, several cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by her brother Thomas Weglarz Jr. of Norwich, CT. A calling hour will be held Friday, October 28th from 9-10 am at the Mystic Funeral Home located on Route 1 in Mystic. The GPS address to the funeral home is 51 Williams Ave., Mystic. A funeral cortege will leave the funeral home at 10:15 am following the calling hour to St. Catherine of Siena Church 243 Route 164 in Preston for an 11:00 funeral Mass. Her burial will follow the Mass at St. Joseph Cemetery, Norwich. Please consider a donation in her memory to the American Heart Assoc.
