Adela Santiago, age 85 of Wellington, passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2018 following a lengthy illness. Born on February 5, 1933 in New York, New York, to Candida and Joseph Quinones, Adela was an avid student and excelled in math. She applied these skills to her career in bookkeeping until her retirement. Adela was married to Bill Santiago. The couple moved from the Bronx to Englishtown, NJ. There, they raised two children before moving to Boca Raton, FL and later Wellington, FL to be closer to their grandchildren. Following Bill's death in 1995, Adela moved to Lake Worth, where she lived for 20 years until she fell ill. Adela lived life to the fullest while extending her kindness towards others. She enjoyed dancing to Latin music, going to the movies, and travel. She was a dedicated volunteer for Vita Nova and several organizations that help the homeless. She took great joy in spending time with her family, especially when sharing memories of her youth or winning a poker hand. Adela will be missed by many friends and family members who will remember her infectious laugh, spotless home, and love for White Linen perfume. She is survived by a daughter, Val (Paul) Stanley, and a son, BJ (Lisa) Santiago; grandchildren Samantha (Brett) Dooies, Lisa Murano, Brittney Santiago, BJ (Jocelyn) Santiago, and William Stanley; and great-grandchildren Olivia and Ethan Dooies. The family wishes to extend its gratitude to Rosie Campbell and Norma Barrett, along with the staff of Vitas Hospice, who cared for Adela in her final months. Adela's family will gather at Our Lady Queen of Peace to honor her memory at Mass on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. (9600 West Atlantic Ave. in Delray Beach). A celebration of Adela's life will follow the service at the Stanley Residence (15610 Cedar Grove Lane in Wellington). Memorials may be sent in Adela's name to charities whose work she supported, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and The Lord's Place.
