Norma M. Smith

Norma Ann Mills Smith, daughter of the late Haywood and Thelma Mills was born in Philadelphia Pennsylvania on October 10, 1934. Norma was the second oldest of four children born to this union. She was predeceased by her two brothers, Haywood Mills Jr and Donald Mills. Norma accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized at Miller Memorial Baptist Church in Philadelphia PA. Norma was named Miss Miller Memorial in her teens. She began music lessons at a young age and was a prodigy on the piano. Norman was intelligent and read music well. She enjoyed playing softball as well. She graduated from West Philadelphia High School in 1953. She began working at Bell Telephone Company following graduation. Norma met and married Joseph L Smith in July 1958. They were blessed with three children from this union, two beautiful daughters, Monica Ann and Colette Lynn, and a son Rodney Lawrence. Norma and her siblings were very close. Norma moved to Willingboro New Jersey in 1982 to be closer to her sister Janice. She became a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Burlington New Jersey. After 40 years of service, Norma retired from the Bell Telephone company in 1993. While residing in New Jersey, she was employed at Virtua Hospital as a telephone operator. Norma adored working working working!!! Norma also known as Nomain and Janice were inseparable as sisters and enjoyed traveling together. When Janice and her husband decided to relocate to Florida, Norma and their mother followed suit in 1999. She started out working for Braman Motors. In 2005, she became a PBX Operator at Palms West Hospital where she stayed until she retired in 2013. Norma LOVED, LOVED, LOVED to shop! She loved shopping for all kinds of dishes. She had a dish for everything! There was not a dish she did not have, and if there was she eventually found it! Her clothes, shoes and jewelry were her favorite items to shop for. Besides the stores, she loved shopping at Columbus Flea Market in New Jersey! Norma was a special lady! She was smart intelligent pretty and funny! She enjoy life and loved to entertain family and friends! Norma will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. She leaves to cherish her memory: Two daughters Monica Lovett (Edwin), Colette Rickard (Towler), one son Rodney Smith (Dawn), ten grandchildren, Julien, Mallori, Jarred, Alexander, Joseph, Rodney Jr, Joshua, Isaiah, Demietri and Monique, two great-grandchildren, Giavonni and Christian, one loving sister Janice Selby (Robert), a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving relatives and close friends, three God-daughters, Valerie E, Beverly and Valerie J. Norma also leaves her longest and dearest best friend, Daisy Barrett of 80 years who she met at seven years old in the sandbox.
