LCpl Van Putten Vink was a very proud veteran of the US Marines enlisted April 20, 1961, honorably discharged February 25, 1963 with 2 years in USMC Reserve. He was awarded Good Conduct Medal and proudly earned his Rifle Marksmanship Badge. His Specialty Title was Antitank Assault Man, graduated Demolition and Land Warfare school. His post USMC career while living in Allendale, NJ included 25 years working at the Ford motor company in NJ at night while carpentry and home building during the day. He worked hard to provide for his family. His hobbies included hunting and fishing with his sons. He liked motorcycles and loved to garden vegetables with his father in-law William. He raised chickens, ducks and turkeys and a pig named Squeak. He also loved his many cats and dogs throughout the years. He always thought it was funny on Thanksgiving to freak out his family members by bringing the turkey feet into the house and teasing them. He also enjoyed family and friend retreats to his cabin in Pennsylvania where waterskiing and boating were great fun. Len and Kaaren retired to Royal Palm Beach, Florida in 2002. His new found hobby was his electric tricycle. Funny to see him riding alongside the highway at 20 mph without pedaling! Len always made friends easily and was generous with those who were less fortunate. Never pretending to be any better than them. Finally, when illnesses struck, first leukemia contracted while he was in basic training at Camp LeJeune. He was a warrior and battled every time another illness struck and just when we thought he was down, he would bounce back. He had a very strong will, strong opinions and was a high maintenance guy! He had a hard time showing his love through words, but he had a good heart and secretly sensitive. He loved his family "forever and ever Amen".
